My 4 year old stepson told me he said a bad word at daycare today and then soap was put in his mouth.

I am really upset about this. I spoke to the director and they said that his bio mom said they should do it. I then called her and she denies ever saying that. I don't even know what to think but I feel awful for him and I don't ever want this to happen again.

Update: Mom now says she did say it but it was just a joke. It's a small daycare run out of a large home. Main sitter/director who I love, says she wasn't there when it happened, never did it herself, and she is going to talk to her employee who was named by my son.

He told his dad about it who told me. I'm letting dad deal with the reporting and taking action since he has legal standing as his bio parent. So I just cuddled him in bed and I asked him who put soap in his mouth and he said her name. I told him that even though he said a bad word, I am not mad at him. I'm mad at the person who hurt you. that was not okay and that me and dad will never do that. And I'm going to make sure nobody hurts you again.

It honestly hurts to me know she did that to him. Like it was probably his first time and he was probably confused, in pain, scared and crying. I want to give him some comfort and reassurance even though it's a little too late.

Hopeful-Result8109 even if mom gave permission, this is still quite literally against the law
  • 08
MotherofCrowlings Exactly - just because they have permission doesn't mean they can break the law.

Separate-Scratch-839 And any sane headed daycare worker is going to find that to be a red flag in a parent. Jesus

Separate-Scratch-839 I'm so glad he has you, you're showing him emotional support too. She seems to have issues pretty bad. he will be able to make it through this with you and his dad on his side, sending good thoughts to you guys

SisteroftheMoon16 OP I really appreciate that. I can't have kids, I don't want bio kids and I never planned on being a mom. But the second I met him, and his dad, I knew this was meant to be. I will protect him at every cost. He is the sweetest soul I've ever known.

ButterfleaSnowKitten I wanted to add that not only is it against the law but she very literally could have hospitalized him. Eating soap even small amounts acts like fast acting food poisoning. I worked in a restaurant and our dishwashers rinse cycle broke and was only doing half jobs so it looks all clean and soapless but we had multiple people in the dining room get sick at about the same time and we had to close early. Eating soap is NO JOKE. I would be worried about dehydration with anyone l

Pink_Flving Pasta Call licensing right now!

    bring_back_my_tardis And CPS

Key_Nefariousness_14 Yes! Not only should she NEVER have done that (and could lose her license for doing so, or cause her employer to), the teacher should have called licensing & CPS herself on bio mom for suggesting this - reporting that kind of thing is required as a Mandated Reporter which every daycare provider and assistant has to be. I'm so sorry this happened OP!

Key_Nefariousness_14 Unless I guess Bio Mom was really obviously joking, and teacher just using that as an excuse

SisteroftheMoon16 OP Bio mom was definitely not joking. I really wish she was but she is a very serious woman with no sense of humor.

gokickrocks- ???? This is horrible and should never, ever happen to a child. Please advocate for him and get him pulled out immediately and report the center to your state's licensing.

SisteroftheMoon16 OP I had a a good little kid conversation with him letting him know that nobody should ever hurt you like that. Dad and I will do everything we can to make sure you're safe and never hurt again.
